SUMMARY:The Big Gig Free Live Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Every Month at the Ballina RSL\, Ellen Briggs presents a free comedy night with local\, national and international comedians.\nMC: Mandy Nolan\, Support: Matty B\, Feature: S Sorrenson\n\nEllen Briggs is an author\, comedy writer\, and professional MC but where she is most at home is on the stage doing stand up comedy. \nEllen never set out to do comedy.  She was writing a book and joined a comedy course to sharpen up her writing\, did a 5 minute comedy set at the end of it and got hooked.  Shortly after that first step onto stage\, she was a finalist in the prestigious RAW Comedy competition and won a National Foxtel competition that was voted on by peers and managers in the industry.  She has never looked back. \nEllen is funny.  Surprisingly funny.  And warm.  When Ellen walks on stage\, people listen.  So much of comedy is about making a connection with the audience and she does that the minute she walks out.  Audiences fall in love with her which gives her the ability to lead them into places other comedians can’t.  Comedy comes naturally to her and relating to her comes instantly to audiences. \nEllen and fellow comedian Mandy Nolan created a stand up comedy show called Women Like Us that they toured throughout Australia to packed houses and rave reviews.  They set out to take a high quality stand up show into regional areas for audiences who often don’t get any entertainment\, and ten years later and over 300 shows down\, performing to over 90\,000 people\, the show became more in demand than they ever imagined. In 2018 they released their co-authored book\,” Women Like Us” which needed a reprint in the first week and is currently in it’s sixth reprint!  They have a hugely popular podcast called Women Like Us\, which Ellen is the producer of as well as the co-host! \nIn 2017 Ellen was selected by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival to perform at the Melbourne Town Hall in UpFront\, the women’s comedy gala to over 2\,000 people. \nIn early 2018 she did an international tour with Punchline Comedy through Asia to rave reviews in all those shows\, and is a now regular and favourite comedian on P&O and Carnival Cruises throughout the country performing to audiences of 900 people ranging from 18 years of age right up to 90! \nShe is a popular and regular guest on ABC NSW’s political satire show Thank God It’s Friday\, and her quick wit and relatable personality landed her a weekly spot as guest comedian on Triple M Radio on the Gold Coast\, as well as often sitting in as co-host for their popular breakfast and drive time shows. \nShe was a popular guest and on the TV Show – Hughsey We Have A Problem on Channel 10.  She is also a regular writer on the hit TV Show “Kinne” starring Troy Kinne which is now in its third season of production. \nEllen has performed alongside all of the big names in Australian comedy\, and is a highly regarded and a much loved and sought after colleague in the Australian comedy industry.  Ellen is a favourite at ladies events\, such Fundraising Lunches\, Girls Nights In and numerous other Cancer Council and fundraising events.  She has also regularly booked for men’s luncheons and functions\, for a hilarious women’s perspective that is not often heard at those events! \nRegionally based\, she is as comfortable hosting national conferences such as the Agricultural Show Society and Australian Poultry Association as she is performing in premier comedy clubs such as The Comics Lounge in Melbourne\, the Sit Down Comedy Club in Brisbane\, or a small intimate comedy venue. \nShe has MC’d and performed at major corporate events for many national organisations \nEllen is also a skilled facilitator in the delivery of comedy workshops for Byron Community College\,  Senior Citizens (Shooting From My Hip Replacement)\, People with Mental Health Issues (Funny In The Head)\, and children (Funny Kids). \nTV Appearances\nTriple J Raw Comedy National Final 2007 – ABC Television\nStand Up Australia – 2006 – Foxtel’s Comedy Channel\nState Focus – Network Ten- 2008\nHughsey We Have A Problem – Network 10 – 2019 \nRadio \nABC\nBay FM\nSEA FM Gold Coast\nABC’s NightLife\nABC Thank God It’s Friday\nTriple M – Gold Coast \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\nDate:\nApril 30\nTime:\n\n7:00 pm – 9:30 pm\n\nCost:\nFree\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\nBallina RSL Auditorium\n\n\n1 Grant Street\nBallina\, NSW 2478 Australia
