A National Tradition Brewing Hope – Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

by | May 9, 2025 | Culture | 0 comments

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (ABMT) is more than just a cuppa and a slice of cake—it’s a nationwide movement that unites communities to support those affected by cancer.   We are looking for those in Ballina Shire celebrating this year, so we know where to go to support the event.

Organised by Cancer Council Australia, this annual event has become the country’s largest and most successful fundraising initiative of its kind. In 2024 alone, the event raised over $16 million, with more than 23,000 morning teas held across the nation. This remarkable achievement underscores the power of community spirit and collective action in the fight against cancer.

Each morning tea is unique, reflecting the personality and creativity of its host, and we want to know how you are giving the event your unique twist. Often personal stories are shared, creating a supportive environment that fosters connection and awareness.

The funds raised through ABMT directly support Cancer Council’s life-saving initiatives. These include funding critical cancer research, providing prevention and support programs, and advocating for policies that improve cancer care and outcomes. Over the past three decades, the event has seen more than 500,000 hosts come together, raising over $200 million nationally .

Individuals and groups can host their own morning teas at home, in the workplace, at local parks, or even virtually. The official day for hosting is Thursday, 22 May, but events can be held throughout May and June. You can register your event officially, but please let us know and we will share the work you are doing.
