Ladies Day is a popular event, and it was all smiles and cheers at the Wollongbar Alstonville Rugby (WAR) club on Saturday, as the Coachella theme inspired Boho looks – sparkles, florals and fur…

The atmosphere was heightened as Alstonville took on Ballina, with many of the ladies supporting the home team.
Early in the game, Ballina put a lot of pressure on Alstonville, just out from their line – they had to work hard to keep them out.

The spread was appetising, and there were bubbles as part of the event that is put on to show wives, girlfriends, sisters and mums that their support is appreciated.

The smiles were catching – it was a great event for all ages.

Music is one of the features of the new club, and made the match a festive game to watch.
The game had a lot of tense moments, and there was some great plays right out front. Alstonville scored off this play, and the crowd went wild!

We caught Ern Sandral the WAR club president chatting with Lisa and Linda. The new clubhouse has been a success – the whole awning area was packed. It’s a fantastic place to catch the action with a great view of the fields.

The final score was 29-21 and the winning team, Alstonville, came over and sang the club song to an appreciative audience cheering them on.

Keep an eye out, as we soon aim to bring you more local sports coverage.
