Eligible homes and businesses across the Ballina Shire are now benefitting from local nbn upgrades.

Upgrades to the nbn network have included:

  • Full fibre upgrades to 7,631 homes and businesses
  • Upgrades to the Fixed Wireless network under the Fixed Wireless Upgrade Program.

Upgrading to full fibre delivers a range of benefits for customers when compared to copper connections, including smoother video calls, enhanced streaming, quicker response times for gaming, and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously – including smart TVs, home security systems, and smart home technology.

To upgrade to full fibre, eligible new and existing customers need to place an order for an eligible high-speed plan (at least 100 Mbps download) through an internet service provider.

Significant enhancements have also been made to the Fixed Wireless network. With a $750 million investment—$480 million from the Australian Government and $270 million from NBN Co—bringing faster speeds and greater capacity to about 800,000 homes and businesses across Australia.

Across the Ballina Shire this means better connectivity for communities serviced by nbn Fixed Wireless.

Speeds have been significantly boosted with Fixed Wireless Home Fast now available to about 90 per cent of the expanded Fixed Wireless footprint and is expected to offer peak wholesale speeds of about 200-250/8-20 Mbps

These improvements are already making a difference for families, students, and small businesses who need reliable internet for day-to-day operations and future growth.

To help customers understand and take advantage of the completed upgrades, the nbn Local team will be hosting a number of free information sessions across the region. Local residents and businesses can come along and have their questions answered. The team can also provide advice on making the most of their home internet and setup.

Head of nbn local NSW Tom O’Dea said upgrading to full fibre when it becomes available will mean customers can access faster speed plans when new hyper-fast residential and business products are launched from September 14.”

“We are pushing fibre and high speed fixed wireless deeper into communities across regional NSW,” he said.

“Upgrading to full fibre or a high speed nbn Fixed Wireless plan means whether you’re working from home, streaming movies and sport, gaming online, or connecting with loved ones, an nbn upgrade can help make a difference to an online experience, especially when multiple people are online at the same time.
