Fed up with a string of alleged criminal and anti-social incidents, Ballina’s largest shopping centre has taken the extraordinary step of publicly posting security camera footage of people it says are wanted by police.
Ballina Fair Centre Manager Shaun Haysom said he makes no apology for going public, stating it’s about protecting the community and supporting local businesses.
“Ballina Fair is for the community – a safe place for everyone. Do the wrong thing and you will be reported to police,” Mr Haysom said.
And, as is increasingly the case in the digital age, you might also find your image being given an unexpected supporting role in the Facebook spotlight.
Ballina News Daily is republishing some of the images in the context of reporting that allegations have been made. We do not assert or imply the guilt or innocence of any individuals depicted.
In one recent post to the popular Ballina Crime Reports Facebook page, a video still of three youths was shared (above photos), along with the following statement:
“Ballina Fair Centre Management and Security would like to notify fellow business owners to remain vigilant following a recent alleged theft incident at BWS and an alleged assault involving individuals identified as Josh, Colby, Bailey, and Jermaine.
The matter has been referred to NSW Police for investigation.”
The post concluded with a clear legal disclaimer:
“This notice is for awareness purposes only and all individuals are entitled to the presumption of innocence.”
A second post, under the title “Do you know this person?”, called for public assistance to help identify someone (below) captured on CCTV in relation to two separate theft incidents -one involving stolen goods from Rebel Sport, the other the theft of an e-scooter.

“Police, Ballina Fair Centre Management and Security are seeking assistance from the public following two theft incidents at Ballina Fair.
“Police would like to speak with the person pictured, as they may be able to assist with the investigation.
“If you have any information that could help identify this individual or assist the investigation, please contact Ballina Fair Security or Crime Stoppers.”
Mr Haysom said he was unapologetic about the approach and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again if necessary.
“I know it’s bold, but these posts are helping curb incidents,” he said.
“The public has been very supportive and so have police.”
