What’s Going Inside the Big Box on River Street?

by | Jul 4, 2025 | Business, News | 0 comments

The western end of Ballina’s CBD is stretching further west, with multi-million dollar development taking shape on Brunswick Street and more planned.

One project drawing plenty of attention is the big-box retail building on the corner of River Street.

It will soon be home to Ballina’s first large-format tools outlet, Total Tools.

It’s good news for tradies and home handymen, offering more choice, local convenience, and fresh competition. No more driving to Lismore for serious tool shopping.

Total Tools claims to be Australia’s largest independent tool retailer.

The building is being constructed by Tycorp, a local family-run business led by Nicholas Tyas. Their property arm, CADRE, is also behind the much-anticipated Solhaven development in West Ballina.

That project will transform the site of the old Cedars Caravan Park into a residential and business hub.

The proposed new dental practice

Just up the street, another big change is on the cards, with a new $3 million medical centre proposed for the corner of Brunswick and Tamar Streets.

The DA, lodged by Optima Healthcare Group, is currently before council. It outlines plans to demolish an existing house and build a two-storey facility including three dental treatment rooms.

Nearby residents were invited to have their say, with the opportunity for comment closing this week.

The plans include the demolition of the existing home and removal of another one of Ballina’s historic Norfolk pines.
