Police Release CCTV in Bangalow Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police have released CCTV footage of a black SUV as investigations continue into the death of Bangalow man Paul Campton in a hit-and-run last month.

Mr Campton, 64, was struck and killed while walking along Raftons Road about 3.30am on Sunday, July 6.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and left before police arrived.

Crash Investigation Unit detectives say CCTV shows a black Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series, model year between 2008 and 2012, travelling north along Granuaille Road shortly after the incident.

They believe the vehicle may have front-end damage and are appealing directly to the driver, any passengers, or anyone who recognises the SUV to come forward.

“Someone knows this car,” a police spokesperson said.

“We’re asking anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Byron Bay Police or Crime Stoppers immediately.”

A crime scene was established on the night of the crash and has been examined by specialist investigators.

The death has shocked the Bangalow community, with locals calling for answers and justice for Mr Campton’s family.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
