Lismore Wins, Casino Loses as Primex Moves East

Casino has lost one of its biggest drawcards, with Norco Primex Field Days confirming it will relocate to the Lismore Showgrounds from May 2026.

The move ends a 41-year chapter for Casino, which has hosted the nationally recognised agricultural expo since its inception. Organisers say Lismore offers better facilities, accommodation and transport links –  but for Casino, it’s a bitter blow.

Primex Director Bruce Wright said the decision was about aligning with a city on the rise and securing the future of the event, which is one of 35 taking place annually around the country.

“It is critical for farmers and rural communities to have access to the technologies and innovation that these primary industries and stakeholders need, especially in a region like ours that has an estimated farm gate production value more than $2 billion per annum,” he said.

“This isn’t just about changing locations, it’s about backing a community that’s backing us. Lismore’s post-disaster recovery story aligns perfectly with Primex’s evolution.”

Economic stakes

Mr Wright says Primex has delivered more than $1 billion in exhibitor sales and close to $100 million in regional economic impact over four decades.

Lismore leaders say hosting the event will inject over $4.5 million each year into the city’s economy.

The Lismore Showgrounds are undergoing a $4.7 million upgrade to prepare for the relocation, with targets of 400 exhibitors, 1,400 suppliers and 30,000 visitors.

Political backing locked in

Primex wasted no time in lining up political support to endorse the move. Federal MP Kevin Hogan, State MP Janelle Saffin and Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg all welcomed the decision, describing it as a major economic boost for the recovering city.

Organisers also highlighted the backing of the North Coast National Show Society, which will host the event at the upgraded Lismore Showgrounds.

What’s ahead

Organisers promise a stronger focus on paddock-to-plate, sustainability, and agri-tech innovation.
