Nominations Open for 2026 Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Ballina Shire Australia Day Awards, giving the community a chance to recognise local heroes who go above and beyond.

From lifesaving volunteers and tireless fundraisers to inspiring young leaders, artists, sportspeople and environmental champions – the awards celebrate those making a real difference in Ballina Shire.

Mayor Sharon Cadwallader said the awards highlight the positive impact of both individuals and groups.

“What stands out about our nominees is not only what they achieve, but how they lift others up and inspire positive change,” Cr Cadwallader said.

“These awards are about recognising lasting contributions that shape a stronger, more connected community.”

Award Categories

  • Young Citizen of the Year (30 years and under) – recognising young achievers.
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (60 years and over) – celebrating the wisdom and dedication of older residents.
  • Volunteer Award – honouring selfless community service.
  • Sports Award – for individuals, teams, coaches or administrators.
  • Arts and Culture Award – celebrating creativity and cultural contributions.
  • Environmental Award – for those protecting and restoring our environment.
  • Community Event of the Year – spotlighting outstanding events held in 2025.

The prestigious Ballina Shire Citizen of the Year will be chosen from nominees across all categories.
