Teens Charged Over Wollongbar Break-In and Car Theft

Two teenagers have been charged following an alleged break-in and car theft at Wollongbar earlier this week.

Police allege a home on Hellyar Drive was broken into between 12.20am and 5.20am on Monday, with keys and a vehicle stolen.

The car was later found on Plateau Drive with front-end damage and has been seized for forensic analysis.

On Tuesday, Operation Soteria officers executed a search warrant at a Wollongbar home.

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were served with Digital Evidence Access Orders, with police seizing material allegedly linked to the incident.

Cannabis was also allegedly found.

Both teens were arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station.

  • The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, possessing a prohibited drug, and hindering police.
  • The 15-year-old was charged with aggravated break and enter and taking and driving a vehicle without consent.

Both were initially refused bail.

The older boy appeared in a Children’s Court on Wednesday and was released on strict conditional bail to reappear today.

The younger boy will reappear on September 26.

Police say inquiries under Operation Soteria are continuing.
