$450,000 in community grants up for grabs across Ballina electorate
Community groups across the Ballina electorate are being encouraged to apply for a share of up to $450,000 in funding, with Expressions of Interest now open for the 2026 Community Building Partnership program.
Local MP Tamara Smith said the program provides vital support for small-scale infrastructure projects that deliver long-term benefits to the community.
“This funding makes a real difference, helping deliver projects that create lasting benefits for our community,” Ms Smith said.
Grants between $10,000 and $100,000 are available to incorporated not-for-profit organisations and local councils across three categories: capital works, equipment and vehicles.
Since 2015, more than $4 million has been secured for over 100 local organisations in the electorate, supporting projects ranging from essential equipment purchases to upgrades of community spaces and services.
Ms Smith said priority would be given to projects that build climate resilience, strengthen essential services and support vulnerable communities, particularly those impacted by the housing crisis.
“Our region is home to a vibrant network of community groups and volunteers doing incredible work, often with limited resources and under increasing pressure,” she said.
Recent funding has already delivered results locally. A $22,000 grant in 2025 helped upgrade facilities at Ocean Shores Country Club, including new shade cloths and seating designed to improve accessibility and increase participation.
Expressions of Interest close on Friday 8 May, with applicants warned the deadline is strict.
Ms Smith encouraged eligible organisations to review the program guidelines and consider how the funding could help bring their projects to life.
Local MPs are involved in the assessment process, meaning support letters are not required.
