Representatives from the Jali Aboriginal Land Council will travel to New York to address the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
An eight-member delegation will spend up to two weeks in the United States, raising concerns about the displacement of Cabbage Tree Island residents following the 2022 floods.
Chairperson Kylie Jacky told the ABC the group will speak about issues affecting the Nyangbul people in the Ballina area.
These include the ongoing relocation of residents from Cabbage Tree Island, many of whom have been unable to return home since the floods.
The delegation will also raise concerns about decision-making processes during disaster recovery and proposed changes to the Crown Lands Management Act.
The land council has previously said it has been working with government to develop flood-resilient housing on the island, with a project plan currently being finalised to support the eventual return of residents.
Recovery Minister and Lismore MP Janelle Saffin said the state government was supporting the community as it works towards a safe future.
The United Nations forum provides a platform for Indigenous representatives from around the world to raise issues relating to rights, culture and development.
