A 28-year-old Ballina man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after seven driving offences, following an earlier warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear in Ballina Local Court.
Sean Hector Ian Bolt had been in custody since February following his arrest.
Bolt was sentenced on Friday over offences including drug driving, a police pursuit and repeatedly driving while banned from the road.
The sentence covered five counts of driving while disqualified.
Bolt was also sentenced for failing to stop for police during a pursuit, driving recklessly, and driving under the influence of drugs.
The police pursuit was the most serious individual offence noted by the court, followed by driving under the influence of drugs.
The court record also noted Bolt was in “dire need of assistance” for attention deficit disorder and mental health issues.
It recorded that he was suffering from an acquired brain injury and needed help to engage with the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Driving bans and parole date
Bolt was also disqualified again from holding a driver’s or rider’s licence.
The court added six-month bans for several of the disqualified driving offences, a 12-month ban for the police pursuit, and a two-year ban for driving under the influence of drugs.
Each new ban started from May 22.
Bolt was sentenced to a jail term of 18 months starting on February 27.
The court set a six-month non-parole period and he is due to be released to parole on August 26.
