Police are appealing for public help after the Australian National Flag was removed from the flagpole outside Byron Bay Police Station in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident happened about 4.13am on Butler Street, where a group of males was captured on CCTV walking north past the station.
The group briefly stopped outside the southern driveway before continuing along the footpath at the front of the building.
As they passed the station, the males appeared to direct their attention to the Australian flag mounted on the flagpole.
The location made the incident particularly brazen, with the flagpole positioned directly outside a police station that operates 24 hours a day.
One male approached the pole, lowered the flag and removed it from its fittings, while the others remained on the footpath watching both him and the station entrance.
The male then ran north toward Shirley Street carrying the flag.
Another male gestured toward police CCTV before the group left the area together in a northerly direction.
Police are seeking community assistance to identify the males in the images above.
Anyone who recognises them, or who has information that may assist police, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or lodge a report online through Crime Stoppers NSW.
