The Ballina woman left unconscious after a hit and run outside KFC earlier this month has now gone public, with a fundraiser launched to support her recovery and mounting medical and living costs.
Jodie Saunders, 53, remains in hospital three weeks after she was struck by a vehicle while walking towards the fast-food outlet on Kerr Street on May 2.
In earlier coverage, Ballina News Daily withheld Ms Saunders’ identity at her request while she recovered from extensive injuries.
A relative has now launched a public fundraiser with a goal of raising $5000 to help the mother-of-two as she faces what is expected to be a lengthy recovery.
Ms Saunders remains bedridden and unable to walk.
Her injuries include a broken sternum, three broken vertebrae, broken ribs, internal bleeding and a broken fibula near her knee.
Ballina News Daily revealed last week that Ms Saunders had issued her own public plea for help after no public police appeal had been made in the three weeks following the incident.
NSW Police later confirmed video evidence was being reviewed and a public appeal was issued seeking information about a silver 2001 Toyota LandCruiser with extensive modifications seen in the area at the time.
Police say there are no further developments at this stage.
Anyone with information that may help identify the driver or vehicle is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote event number E89434187.
