Renewed appeal as mystery surrounds missing Far North Coast woman
Police have renewed their appeal for public assistance as the search continues for a 73-year-old woman who vanished from the Murwillumbah area almost three months ago.
Yvonne Whear was last seen driving along Queensland Road at Murwillumbah on February 19 before her vehicle was spotted heading towards Dungay.
Despite extensive searches involving helicopters, drones, police boats, sonar equipment, trail bikes and officers on foot, there has still been no trace of her.
Police say Ms Whear was last seen about 3.22pm driving a gold Ford Escape wagon with NSW registration EWS28P north along Queensland Road towards Dungay.
She has not been seen or heard from since.
Ms Whear is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 154cm tall, with a medium to solid build, long grey-brown hair and a large scar, possibly on her right arm.
She is known to frequent the Murwillumbah and Dungay areas.
Police said significant resources had been committed to the search effort across rugged terrain and waterways in the Far North Coast region.
While the matter remains a missing persons investigation, detectives say they are keeping an open mind.
“Police are open to all avenues of inquiry and will act upon all information received by members of the public,” a spokesperson said.
Anyone with information about Ms Whear’s movements or whereabouts is urged to contact Tweed Heads Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.
