A Ballina man facing stalking, theft and knife-related charges will remain on bail despite a court finding he breached conditions of his release.

Christopher Campbell Bennett, 42, appeared before Local Court Bail Division Thursday from custody after police brought detention applications against him.

The court found Bennett had breached bail conditions requiring him to report to police and comply with drug and alcohol restrictions.

Despite the breaches being established, Judge L Viney ordered Bennett’s bail to continue.

Bennett is before the court on five charges, including stalking or intimidating a person with intent to cause fear of physical harm, two counts of stealing involving property valued at less than $2000, dishonestly obtaining property by deception, and carrying a visible knife in a public place in a manner alleged to cause fear for safety.

Court records show Bennett was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken into custody on June 4 before later being granted conditional bail by Judge Kathy Crittenden at Ballina local court.

His bail conditions include reporting to Ballina Police Station daily, living at an approved address, attending treatment, and abstaining from alcohol and illicit drugs unless prescribed.

Police are also permitted to attend his home for drug and alcohol testing.

Bennett is due to return to Ballina Local Court on July 30, when the matters remain listed for sentence.
