A major housing development designed to help flood-affected families remain in Lismore has reached a significant milestone, with the NSW Government releasing a draft masterplan for more than 500 homes on the former Southern Cross University site at East Lismore.

The 72-hectare Crawford Road development is being delivered by Landcom and the NSW Reconstruction Authority through the Resilient Lands Program and is intended to provide permanent, flood-resilient housing for people displaced by the 2022 floods.

The draft masterplan outlines plans for more than 500 homes, including freestanding houses, duplexes, terraces and relocated homes from the Resilient Homes Program buyback scheme.

The proposal also includes at least 20 per cent affordable housing for low to moderate-income households, while eligible buyback participants will receive priority access before homes are offered to the broader market.

The new neighbourhood has been designed with climate resilience in mind, featuring increased tree canopy, water-sensitive urban design, walkable streets and homes located away from flood-prone areas.
