Police have renewed their appeal for information about missing Northern Rivers woman Yvonne Whear, six months after she vanished without a trace.

The 73-year-old Murwillumbah mother was last seen driving along Queensland Road at Murwillumbah on Thursday, February 19.

Police say her gold Ford Escape wagon, registration EWS28P, was captured about 3.20pm travelling north on Queensland Road towards Dungay. Neither Yvonne nor her vehicle has been seen since.

The renewed appeal coincides with Missing Persons Week 2026, which runs from August 2 to 8 under the theme “Answers Still Matter.”

Yvonne is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 154cm tall, with a medium to solid build and long grey-brown hair. She is known to frequent the Murwillumbah and Dungay areas.

Police say extensive searches involving drones, helicopters, police boats, sonar equipment, trail bikes and officers on foot have failed to locate her.

Her daughter, Gillian Hallac, said the family continued to live with the uncertainty every day.

“Our family is doing everything we can to cope, but the uncertainty is overwhelming,” she said.

“I miss her advice, her voice, her presence. It’s the everyday moments that hurt the most.”

She appealed to anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.

“Someone out there knows something. Even the smallest detail could help bring Mum home. Our family, especially her grandchildren, need answers.”

Detective Inspector Paul Fenwick, from the NSW Police Missing Persons Registry, said finding answers for Yvonne’s family remained a priority.

“Every lead is assessed, every piece of information is followed up, and we continue to appeal for public assistance,” he said.

Tweed-Byron Police District Crime Manager Detective Acting Inspector Chris Elliott said detectives had not identified any evidence to suggest Yvonne intended to disappear voluntarily.

“Since Yvonne’s disappearance there has been considerable speculation, but the investigation remains open,” he said.

“Anyone who saw Yvonne, spoke with her, or noticed her vehicle around the time she went missing should contact police. Even a small detail could help move this investigation forward.”
