The countdown is on for the 11th Oceania Cup, an all-female soccer tournament hosted by the Alstonville & District Football Club.
After a winter season plagued by rain, anticipation is building for two action-packed days of competition and celebration of women’s football this October long weekend (October 4–5) at Geoff Watt Oval, Alstonville.
New format for 2025
This year’s tournament will feature a revamped structure designed to showcase both elite and social-level competition:
- Open A: Six teams will contest full 11-a-side matches in a round-robin format, with the top two progressing to the final.
- Open B: Twenty-four teams will battle it out in 6-a-side football across four pools of six, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and a grand final.
While no junior division is scheduled this year, players turning 15 in 2025 are eligible to join senior teams in either Open A or Open B.
Registrations now open
Teams are already signing up from across the Northern Rivers and beyond, including Ballina, Casino, Yamba, Toowoomba, Alstonville, and Surfers Paradise. Organisers say the mix of local and travelling talent will make for a thrilling weekend.
All games will run between 9am and 4pm, with supporters invited to enjoy a lively atmosphere featuring a full canteen, bar, tournament merchandise, and food trucks hosted by Plateau Sports.
Backed by the community
The Oceania Cup is proudly supported by HCF, Northern NSW Football Association, Football Far North Coast, and Collins Hume Accountants.
Tournament coordinator Christie Connelly said the event has grown into one of the most important fixtures on the women’s football calendar.
“Each year we see more teams, more supporters, and more energy,” she said. “It’s not just about the football—it’s about celebrating women’s sport and creating opportunities for players of all ages.”
