Cyclist Critically Injured on Popular Cumbalum to Ballina Path

A 55-year-old man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital by Ambulance in a critical condition after falling from a bicycle on the shared path between Cumbalum and Ballina.

Three ambulance crews attended the scene just after eight o’clock this morning and treated the man for suspected head and chest injuries.

The 5km shared path between Cumbalum and Ballina is a popular route for cyclists and e-bike riders travelling between the two areas.

The incident is likely to be noted by many regular users of the path, which is widely used for commuting and recreation.

The incident is the second serious accident reported in Ballina in recent weeks.

A woman in her thirties was airlifted to hospital with head injuries after a e-bike accident in West Ballina on February 28.

Paramedics remained at the scene while the man was assessed and stabilised before being transported to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition.
