Have your say: Community invited to help shape local health services
The Northern NSW Local Health District is calling for new members to join its community advisory groups.
The groups provide feedback and advice on local hospital and health services, acting as a link between the community and the health system.
Advisory groups operate across hospitals in Ballina, Byron Bay, Lismore, Casino, Grafton, Maclean, Murwillumbah and Tweed, along with the Multi-Purpose Service network covering Bonalbo, Kyogle, Nimbin and Urbenville.
There are also specialist advisory groups focused on mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and Aboriginal health.
Chair of the district’s Community Partnership Advisory Council and co-chair of the Lismore-Casino Community Advisory Group, Suzie Carey, said the groups gave local people a direct voice in healthcare planning.
“Community advisory groups give a voice to the people who use our local health services,” Ms Carey said.
“We meet every two months to hear updates from across the district, share ideas and experiences, raise concerns, and contribute to special projects that help improve services.”
Tracey Maisey said the advisory groups played an important role in helping the health district better understand local needs.
“Community advisory groups create a bridge between our health services and the public,” Ms Maisey said.
“They provide valuable insights and feedback that help us better understand community needs, strengthen communication, and deliver high-quality healthcare.”
The health district is encouraging applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people with lived experience of the health system.
Successful applicants will receive a small payment for each meeting to cover out-of-pocket expenses.
Applications close on Friday, May 30.
