Police claim to have smashed a major cross-border drug trafficking network allegedly moving cocaine, MDMA and cannabis from northern NSW into Queensland.
A 43-year-old Tweed Heads South man was arrested after NSW Police raided a Triton Street property on May 21 as part of Operation Yankee Interstate, a joint investigation with Queensland Police targeting the alleged supply pipeline across the border.
Officers allegedly found a portable clandestine drug laboratory, commercial quantities of LSD and MDMA, cannabis, a gel blaster and a large sum of cash.
Queensland Police said the broader operation targeted the alleged movement of cocaine, MDMA and cannabis into Queensland from northern New South Wales, with detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit working with NSW Police.
Michael Sherriff has been charged by NSW Police with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug in a commercial quantity.
He was also charged with one count each of knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime, supplying a prohibited drug in a small indictable quantity, and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on July 17.
As part of the same investigation, search warrants were also executed at Pimpama and Coomera, where officers allegedly located dangerous drugs, cash, mobile phones, drug utensils and other evidentiary items.
A 16-year-old Coomera boy was charged with 15 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, along with further drug, property and explosives-related offences.
He is due to appear at Southport Childrens Court today, May 27.
A 16-year-old Pimpama boy was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than Schedule 4, and further offences relating to electronic access information, dangerous drugs and drug utensils.
He appeared at Southport Childrens Court on May 22.
Police coordinated search warrants in Northern Nsw and the Gold Coast as part of ongoing proactive policing targeting drug trafficking and organised cross border criminal activity.
Acting Detective Inspector Nathan Boddy said the operation showed the commitment of Gold Coast detectives to disrupting dangerous drug trafficking.
“This operation demonstrates the commitment of Gold Coast CPIU detectives to identifying and disrupting the trafficking of dangerous drugs into our communities,” Acting Detective Inspector Boddy said.
“We will continue to target anyone involved in the supply of dangerous drugs, particularly where young people are allegedly involved in serious criminal offending.
“Drug trafficking causes significant harm across our community, and detectives will continue to use every available investigative strategy to disrupt those responsible.”
Investigations are ongoing.
