A 57-year-old man has been arrested in Griffith over an outstanding warrant issued in Ballina for alleged sexual offences involving children.

Australian Federal Police officers arrested the man at a Griffith home on Friday as part of a major interstate police operation targeting wanted offenders.

Police say the warrant had been issued by Ballina Local Court in relation to alleged sexual offences involving children.

The man was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, where the warrant was executed.

He was refused bail and appeared in court on Saturday, where he was remanded in custody.

The 57-year-old is due to appear in Grafton court on October 6.

Hundreds charged in three-day operation

The arrest was highlighted by NSW Police among the significant results from Operation Amarok 14, a three-day crackdown conducted across NSW from Friday to Sunday.

For the first time, the operation was conducted in conjunction with ACT Policing and the Australian Federal Police, with agencies working together to locate people wanted over alleged offences.

Across NSW, 732 people were charged with 1,589 offences during the operation, while 228 arrest warrants were executed.

Police also carried out 12,054 apprehended domestic violence order compliance checks and 1,497 bail compliance checks.

A total of 118 firearms and 16 other weapons were seized.

Operation Amarok is primarily aimed at domestic and family violence offenders considered to pose an increased threat to victims because of their capability, intent and access.

NSW Police said more than 9,000 alleged offenders have now been charged during Operation Amarok campaigns since 2023.

Deputy Commissioner Regional NSW Field Operations Paul Pisanos said police receive a domestic and family violence-related call every three minutes.

“Behind every call for help is a person experiencing fear and a family whose safety has been impacted,” he said.

He said domestic and family violence was not simply a policing issue and required a broader community response.
