A 78-year-old man has been charged after allegedly chasing a group of children in his car, mounting a gutter and mowing down two boys riding an e-bike.

The incident happened shortly after 8.30pm on Saturday at Feran Crescent, Coffs Harbour, after police say a group of boys knocked on the door of a home before riding away on e-bikes.

Police allege the occupant got into his car and followed the riders, mounting a gutter and continuing along a nature strip before crashing into the back of an e-bike.

Two boys, aged 11 and 12, were thrown from the bike and taken to hospital for treatment. Both have since been released.

Police arrested the 78-year-old man at a Coffs Harbour home a short time later.

He was charged with predatory driving and knowingly driving a vehicle in a manner that menaces others.

The man was initially refused bail but was granted conditional bail when he appeared in court on Sunday.

He is due to return to court on September 23.
