A 51-year-old woman has been charged with murder after an elderly man was found dead in a creek at a Teven property.
The charge was laid late today, more than 24 hours after police were called to the Teven Road home over concerns for the welfare of an 81-year-old man.
Police say officers searched the property about 12.10pm on Thursday and found the man’s body in Maguire’s Creek, which runs beside the property.
The woman was arrested at the scene and taken to Lismore Police Station before later being transferred to Lismore Base Hospital for assessment.
She was released back into police custody about 10.25am Friday and returned to Lismore Police Station, where she was charged with murder.
Police allege the woman and the 81-year-old man were known to each other.

The Teven Road property has been the focus of a major police investigation, with forensic officers examining the home and surrounding area.
The road was closed for a period on Friday morning before reopening, while the property remained taped off as investigators continued their work.
Police have not revealed the circumstances surrounding the man’s death or the nature of the relationship between the pair.
The woman has been refused bail and is due to appear in court on Saturday.
Investigations are continuing.
UPDATE 9PM: NSW Police issued a correction on Friday night clarifying that the charge against the 51-year-old woman is murder (domestic violence). Police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the woman and the 81-year-old man, other than saying they were known to each other.
