A 16-year-old boy has been charged with an extraordinary 109 offences following an investigation into an alleged North Coast crime spree involving dozens of stolen vehicles.

The teenager and a second boy, aged 17, were arrested at Grafton Police Station today, with the pair now facing a combined 157 charges.

Police allege 39 vehicles were stolen during a series of aggravated break-ins and other property crimes across northern NSW between November 2024 and December last year.

The 16-year-old faces charges including aggravated break and enter, stealing motor vehicles, participating in a criminal group and being carried in a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.

The 17-year-old faces another 48 charges, including aggravated break and enter, stealing and taking motor vehicles without consent and participating in a criminal group.

Some of the charges against the teenagers also relate to the alleged dissemination of material connected with offences.

The investigation began in March when officers from the Mid North Coast Police District Proactive Crime Team began examining the string of alleged offences under Operation Soteria.

Police say the alleged incidents occurred in locations including Coffs Harbour, Toormina, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Hat Head, Frederickton, Crescent Head, South West Rocks and Armidale.

Both teenagers were refused bail and appeared before a children’s court today, where they were formally refused bail to reappear on October 7.

Police say investigations under Operation Soteria are continuing.
