Pharmacists to prescribe contraceptive pill
Women across NSW will soon be able to access the contraceptive pill directly from trained pharmacists, under a new $4.5 million state government program.
The reform will allow eligible pharmacists to prescribe the pill without the need for a GP visit, making access faster and more convenient.
The move builds on a trial launched in 2023, with more than 700 pharmacies already registered to provide resupply services.
Initial consultations will be free for the first 5,000 patients, before fees of between $20 and $60 apply.
Lismore MP Janelle Saffin said the change would improve access to essential healthcare, particularly in regional communities.
