VIDEO: Northern Rivers man charged over firearms, child abuse material
A Tweed Heads man is facing 20 charges after police allegedly uncovered illegal firearms and child abuse material during a raid at his home.
Joshua Alan Cook, 36, was taken into custody after officers raided his home at Bilambil Heights on Monday.
Detectives from the NSW Police State Crime Command’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit executed a search warrant about 7.15am under Strike Force Angler.
Police allege Cook used the internet to access child abuse material.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with 20 offences.
Those charges include multiple alleged firearm offences, including possession of unauthorised and unregistered firearms, and failing to store firearms safely.
Police also allege he possessed ammunition without a licence and a prohibited drug.
Further charges relate to child abuse material, including four counts of using a carriage service to access the material and one count involving animal abuse material.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on May 15.
Police said investigations under Strike Force Angler are continuing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The allegations have not been tested in court.
