Teen charged over Woolies Goonellabah bottle attack

A teenage boy has been charged after a supermarket worker was allegedly struck in the face with a bottle during a suspected shoplifting incident at Goonellabah.

Emergency services were called to a supermarket on Simeoni Drive about 12.20pm on May 17 following reports of an assault.

Police allege a 55-year-old staff member challenged four teenage boys over suspected shoplifting when one of the youths struck him in the face with a bottle before the group fled.

The worker suffered serious facial injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

Following investigations by officers attached to Richmond Police District, a 16-year-old boy attended Lismore Police Station shortly before midday on Friday.

He was charged with wounding a retail worker, reckless as to causing actual bodily harm.

The teenager was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before a children’s court on June 26.

Police said investigations into the incident are continuing.
