Serious accident at Ballina pump track sends rider to hospital
A man in his 30s is in a serious condition in hospital after an accident at Ballina’s newly opened pump track.
NSW Ambulance said paramedics were called to the track at about 9.30 this morning and found the man with serious head injuries.
He was stabilised at the scene before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
It is not yet known whether the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The pump track was officially opened just before Christmas and has been heavily used during the school holiday period.
The facility was promoted as a high-energy, multi-use track designed for bikes, scooters and skate-style riding.
Mayor Sharon Cadwallader this afternoon extended her sympathy to the injured man and his family, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
She said the incident was a reminder that the pump track is a serious piece of adventure sporting infrastructure that carries inherent risks.
The mayor urged users to take care and to use appropriate safety equipment when riding.
