Hundreds of female footballers and supporters are expected to descend on Alstonville this October when the Oceania Cup returns for its 12th edition.

The three-day all-female tournament will be staged across the October long weekend, from October 2–4, with teams travelling from across the Northern Rivers, Queensland and as far south as Sydney.

Following major field upgrades, Alstonville Football Club says the tournament will return to full capacity across Crawford Park and Geoff Watt Oval, allowing full 11-a-side competition alongside the popular Over-35s format.

Tournament coordinator Christie Connelly said the Oceania Cup had developed into one of the highlights of the regional sporting calendar.

“The Oceania Cup has grown into much more than just a football tournament — it’s a highlight on the regional sporting calendar,” she said.

“Bringing hundreds of players, families and supporters into Alstonville each year creates an incredible energy in town and gives us a chance to showcase the warmth and spirit of our local community.”

Teams coming from across the east coast

Organisers expect teams from Sydney, Terrigal, Coffs Harbour and Yamba, along with Ballina, Casino, Goonellabah and other Northern Rivers centres.

Clubs from the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Toowoomba are also expected to make the trip south.

Three competitions will be held, with Open A catering for higher-level players, Open B for teams from lower divisions and Open C offering a six-a-side competition for players aged over 35.

Open A and Open B teams can register up to 18 players, while the Over-35s competition allows up to 10. Players must be female and turn at least 15 during 2026.

Ms Connelly said completing the field upgrades meant organisers could again offer full 11-a-side divisions.

“With our field upgrades completed, returning to full 11v11 divisions alongside our popular Over-35s 6v6 format allows us to deliver the ultimate tournament experience for players of all levels,” she said.

Football — and a boost for Alstonville

The weekend will also feature an all-day barbecue, canteen, coffee, tournament merchandise and other activities, with visiting players and families expected to provide a welcome boost for local accommodation, cafes and businesses.

The Oceania Cup was first staged by Alstonville Football Club in 2013 and has continued apart from disruptions during the COVID period.

“This is my fourth year being involved with co-ordination of the event,” Ms Connelly said.

“Every year, the standard of football and the camaraderie on display gets better and better.

“We can’t wait to welcome teams from all over the east coast to Alstonville for what will undoubtedly be our most memorable tournament yet.”

The 2026 Oceania Cup is supported by Football Far North Coast, The Federal Hotel, Collins Hume, HCF, Alstonville Plateau Bowls & Sports Club and Northern NSW Football.

Team nominations are being taken through the Alstonville Football Club website.
