Spikes stop high-speed police chase
A high-speed police pursuit reaching 150km/h has ended with a 24-year-old woman charged after road spikes were deployed twice.
Highway patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement on Ballina Road at Goonellabah just before 5pm on Saturday, April 18, when they detected a vehicle allegedly travelling more than 80km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Police said the driver failed to stop when directed, sparking a pursuit.
During the chase, the vehicle allegedly reached speeds of up to 150km/h.
Road spikes were first deployed on Wallworks Road, but the car continued south.
A second set of spikes was deployed on Savilles Road, with the vehicle eventually coming to a stop on Manifold Road.
The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene.
She allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test and was taken to Casino Police Station.
Police have charged her with five offences, including failing to stop for police, driving an unregistered vehicle and possessing drugs.
Her vehicle has been confiscated for three months.
